Aerobic Respiration Flashcards
1
Q
What is the process of aerobic respiration?
A
- Glucose reacts with oxygen
- Energy that holds the reactants together is transferred into a form that our cells can use.
- This is an exothermic reaction.
- C6H12O6 + 602 = 6CO2 + 6H2O
2
Q
Where is the site for aerobic respiration?
A
- Very active cells, such as muscle cells have many mitochondria for aerobic respiration.
- Less active cells, such as fat cells need little energy and therefore less mitochondria.
3
Q
What is the need for respiration?
A
- Used to build up large molecules and break large molecules.
- So that muscle cells can contract.(movement)
- To maintain body temperature.
- Active transport for minerals and ions. (plants)
