Aerobic Respiration Flashcards

1
Q

What is the process of aerobic respiration?

A
  1. Glucose reacts with oxygen
  2. Energy that holds the reactants together is transferred into a form that our cells can use.
  3. This is an exothermic reaction.
  4. C6H12O6 + 602 = 6CO2 + 6H2O

Q

Where is the site for aerobic respiration?

A
  1. Very active cells, such as muscle cells have many mitochondria for aerobic respiration.
  2. Less active cells, such as fat cells need little energy and therefore less mitochondria.

Q

What is the need for respiration?

A
  1. Used to build up large molecules and break large molecules.
  2. So that muscle cells can contract.(movement)
  3. To maintain body temperature.
  4. Active transport for minerals and ions. (plants)
