What was the stono rebellion?
a violent slave rebellion which was unsuccessful as many were killed

armed soldiers killed many of the slaves

30 but the soldiers caught up with most of them

1742 (rebellion in 1739)
What happened to the rebels?
most were killed with very brutal methods e.g eaten by birds and having heads stuck onto a spike
What new rules were added?
- great restrictions on slave freedoms
- limited no. of slaves
- introduced fines for mistreating slaves
Three causes of the rebellion:
- 67% of people were slaves
- yellow fever lead to many slaves dying
- rumours fo a war between Britain and Spain
