What is a provincial offence
Provincial offences are minor non-criminal offences, such as traffic violations. These offences are dealt with in the Ontario Court of Justice by a judge or a justice of the peace.
What is the role of a JP
They preside over a wide range of matters, dealing with more than 200 different pieces of legislation, criminal code matters and municipal by-laws.
JPs’ duties vary from province to province. In Ontario, JPs preside over criminal trials of summary conviction but are not allowed to
