The Rock Cycle Flashcards
1
Q
What are features of Igneous Rock and give two examples
A
- Interlocking Crystals
- Resistant to erosion
- Tough
E.g. Basalt and Granite
2
Q
Describe the formation of Sedimentary Rocks
A
Sedimentary rocks are formed by compaction and cementation of sediments (usually under the sea)
3
Q
Describe the Features of Sedimentary rocks and name 2 examples
A
- bedding planes
- fossils
- some are tough some are weak
E.g. Limestone and Clay
4
Q
Describe the formation of Metamorphic rock
A
Metamorphic rocks are formed by the adaptation of previous rock (sedimentary or igneous) by pressure and heat
5
Q
Describe the features of Metamorphic rock and name 2 examples.
A
- Tough/resistant
- Cleavage
- Banding
E.g Slate and Schist
6
Q
Explain The Formation Of Igneous Rock
A
Igneous rock is formed by the cooling of Magma
Intrusive : below the surface
Extrusive : Above the surface (Volcanic Activity)
