What does tissue fluid in the lungs contain?
Oxygen and Glucose.
What diffuses out of the blood into the air?
Carbon dioxide.
What diffuse into the blood?
Oxygen.
What type of blood cell carries blood around the body?
The red blood cells.
What makes the alveoli good for their role?
They give the lungs a large surface area so that oxygen can diffuse quickly from the air inside the lungs.
What contains the blood near the lungs that is to be oxygenated?
Capillaries.
What happens when you inhale?
The diaphragm contracts and moves downwards and the rib muscles contract and lift ribs up and outward.
What happens when you exhale?
The Diaphragm relaxes and moves upwards and the rib muscles relax and move ribs down and inwards.
What in the lungs performs gaseous exchange?
The Alveoli.
What are the 4 special features of the alveoli?
Thin walls, moist lining, large surface area and rich blood supply.
