Species, Breeds And Variation Flashcards
Different group of a species have different characteristics. What is the name of that mutated group.
A breed.
What are differently mutated groups of plants called?
Varieties.
A species is a group of organisms that is able to produce offspring that are able to reproduce the same organism again. If so are all members of a species different? Why?
They are different due to different parental characteristics begin shared and genetic mutations during the forming of a new organism which can set them apart from others of the species.
What is an environmental variation?
It is a variation caused by an organisms environmental surroundings. E.g. Plants grow at different heights in different areas of a field due to the amount of light they get or the different amounts of water or mineral salts they get. They things are all physical environmental factors.
What is selective breeding?
Selective breeding is when farmers or animal breeders select two animals with certain characters. This animal is then used to breed from. Breeding two selectively bred animals continues selective breeding, keeping a certain trait apparent in all the offspring.
What is cloning?
Cloning is when an asexual organism creates offspring. The offsprings are all clones as they are all identical. Taking a cutting is a form of cloning. Scientists now have ways to clone animals.
