The reformation was when the catholic church split up into the catholic and protestant church. Although both were christian they had completely different ways of worship.

It was held because
- Many churchmen became lazy and focused on power more than religion
- Many people disliked having to pay so much to the church
- The kings wanted to run their own countries without the church’s interference.
- People thought buying forgiveness for sins was wrong
- The printing press was invented
- The renaissance taught people to doubt the church’s beliefs.
What would happen to priests if they committed a crime/\
If the priests committed a crime they would have light punishments like having to pray a lot of time while normal people were executed for these sins
What taxes did normal people have to pay to the church
they had to give one tenth of everything they earned crops or money to the local church tithe new bishops had to give all their first year’s salary to the pope.
What did the churchmen do with all that money
They spent it on fine gowns, tombs, palaces, robes and even jewelry but not on the country
