Why did reformers translate the bible?
During church services the bible was always taught in Latin. Reformers then decided to translate it into their own language (German). This meant that they no longer had to rely on a priest to tell them what the bible said. They could read it for themselves.

They were known as Protestant churches because they protested against( stood up against ) the Catholic Church. ( there are approximately 40,000 Protestant denominations in the world today).
