A man named Leo.

He put Jesus’s disciple Peter in charge of the whole church.
What did Leo claim about making Peter in charge?
Leo claimed that the authority given to Peter by Jesus was passed from one Bishop of Rome to the next.
What did Christians in the east want in 1052?
They no longer wanted to be led by the Bishop of Rome (who we now call the Pope)
What did the diagreements lead to in 1052?
It led to the Great schism - a split in the church
