Q

(AO3) Describe research evidence for the psychodynamic approach.

A

Little Hans communication to Freud via Dad. Phobia of horses. Freud determined incomplete oedapus complex - fear of father - displaced on horse due to similar face shape…

Q

(AO3) Why is the psychodynamic approach considered a pioneering approach in psychology?

A

Suggested new methodology case studies. Based on observations rather than introspection. Developed first non-biological treatments for disorders (psychological: psychotherapy). Directly led to successful treatments and paved way for other psychological therapies.

16
Q

(AO3) Explain gender bias in the psychodynamic approach.

A

Freud had far less developed views on female sexuality. Refused to accept how it may differ from male sexuality. Did not investigate women. Serious beta-bias. Issues as he treated many women and his methods are still influential today.

17
Q

(AO3) Describe the issue of using the ideographic method in the psychodynamic approach.

A

Focus on case studies only. Provides rich detail and insight into individual (often rare) cases. IS a useful method. But psychoanalysis lacks ANY scientific evidence. Means it cannot be tested, proven or disproven. May have disproportionate influence now, spreading gender and culture biases.
