To describe a completed action FAR BACK in the past, like a past state e.g. I HAD lived
How do we form the pluperfect tense? Give 2 steps
- Take the imperfect form of avoir or être
2. Add the past participle of the verb doing the action
Which verbs use avoir in the pluperfect tense?
Most verbs, the same ones that use avoir in the perfect tense (not MRS VANDERTRAMP)
Which verbs use être in the pluperfect tense?
Irregular verbs, the same ones that use être in the perfect tense, i.e. MRS VANDERTRAMP that describe a state of being
In the pluperfect tense, are there gender agreements on the past participle for verbs that take avoir?
No (same as the perfect tense)
In the pluperfect tense, are there gender agreements on the past participle for verbs that take être?
Yes (same as the perfect tense)
Conjugate the following:
