Parthenon features:
Although constructed primarily in the Doric order, the Parthenon had two features.
Columns inside the treasury and 2nd a continuous ionic frieze.
Pediment:
In classical architecture, a triangular element known as a pediment rested on the cornice. Crowning the front and back of the building.
The Doric Metopes:
Four mythological battles are illustrated in the Parthenon Metopes. The other three metope battles depicted Greeks against Amazons. Each set of metopes expressed an aspect of the Greek sense of superiority.
The ionic frieze:
Over the outside of the inner wall of the Parthenon. An ionic frieze long illustrated the greater pantothenic procession.
This festival was held every four years and the entire city participated.
The naos:
Contained Phidias’s cult statue of Athena, towering over and reflected in a pool of water.
The richness of the statues materials was a sign of the wealth transferred from Delos to Athens.
The Greek Theatre:
The outdoor theatre came into its own as an architectural form after the 5th century.
Frieze:
Frieze is a decorative band or border usually on the top of a building or wall
Metope:
a square space between triglyphs in a Doric frieze.
Triglyph:
in a Doric frieze, a slightly projecting, rectangular block occurring at regular intervals and having two vertical grooves
