- He then shot Antinous through the neck, causing an uproar
- The suitors sat up from their seats in fear
- They then insult Odysseus, thinking that Antinous’ death was accidental
- Odysseus then declared his identity as King of Ithaca to the suitors

A
- The Suitors cowardly blame Antinous as the mastermind of their actions and pleaded that Odysseus spare their lives
- Odysseus refused and stated that all the suitors’ combined inheritance would not be enough recompense for the things they had done
- Eurymachus then instructed the suitors to pick up their swords and fight as Odysseus would not yield
- Then Odysseus shot him in the chest, killing him

A
- Antiphinomus rushed at Odysseus with his sword drawn
- However, Telemachus intercepted him by throwing a spear at him, killing him
- Telemachus then rejoined his father’s side
- Telemachus then told his dad that he would bring him a shield, two spears and a helmet and left to go retrieve said items

A
- Telemachus reached him and gave him the armour and stood beside him
- They were then joined by Phileotius and Eumaeus
- Odysseus ordered the swineherd to guard the passage at the back of the great hall
- Agelaus(one of the suitors) realised the existence of the passage and told the other suitors to go through and raise the alarm and alert people

Why did Melanthius believe going through the passage was futile and what was his counter proposition? [4]:
A
- He believed that they would easily be killed inside the passage
- Instead, he suggested that he would go to the storeroom and get armour
- Melanthius returned with a dozen shields and spears and a lot of helmets
- Telemachus ordered Eurymaeus to go and lock the storeroom door and find out how the suitors knew of the weapons

What happened while Telemachus was giving his instructions to Eurymaeus? [5]:
A
- Melanthius returned to the storeroom to get more armour, the swineherd spotted him and notified Odysseus
- Odysseus told Eurymaeus and Phileotius to tie up Melanthius whilst Telemachus and Odysseus deal with the suitors in the hall
- The men obeyed and set off for the storeroom
- They pounced on Melanthius and dragged him to the floor by his hair.
- Then they tied him up and locked the door

A
- Athena appeared with mentor’s voice and Odysseus asked for help
- Agelaus tried to convince Athena to side with the suitors instead of Odysseus
- Agelaus’ speech angered Athena which caused her to encourage Odysseus to fight as she would be beside him
- However, she did not give Odysseus the power to determine the fight instead she continued to test him
- She then took the form of a swallow and flew up to the roof

- He told 6 of the men to throw their pears at Odysseus and let Zeus do the rest
- The men obeyed, however, Athena deflected them
- Odysseus also decided to throw his spears and his comrades’ too and killed 4 suitors
- The suitors tried to throw their spears again, yet Athena deflected them again
- Odysseus told his men to hurl their spears once again and killed 4 more suitors
