What happened during the first battle?
The commanders of Parliament’s armies were chocked by the lack of discipline and skill shown by their troops.
Who did Parliament turn to and what did they make him do?
Parliament turned to a Puritan Member of Parliament and farmer from Norfolk called Oliver Cromwell. They gave him thr job of training a new set of troops to take on the King’s men.
Why was it called the New Model Army?
Because it was a different kind of army.
What did Cromwell do to his troops?
He made them live according to the rules of his religion and harshly punished anyone who broke his laws.
What were the new troops like?
They were strictly trained and strictly disciplined
How would they go i to battle and why?
Signing hymns because they fought for God.
How did Cromwell chose his men?
Based on their abilities rather than their wealth.
What did the training do?
It made his cavalry more easy to control.

He surrendered to Scotland, hoping he would be safe north of the border.

They sold him to parliament for £400,000 and he was then taken as a prisoner of Parliament to the Isle of Wight.
