Why couldn’t the population increase be because of immigration?
Because historians know that after 1750 the number of people moving to Britain was similar to the number of people leaving.
How could farming affect it?
After 1750 farmers produced more food which gave people a healthier diet of fruits, vegetables, meat and diary. All of the vitamins and minerals helped fight of disease.
How could young love affect it?
After 1750 people started to get married younger which gave them more time to have more children.
How could pants affect it?
After 1800 cotton began to replace wool and cotton underwear became very popular and because cotton is much easier to wash so regular washing meant more germs were killed off.
How could midwives affect it?
After 1750, there were improvements in the care of pregnant woman by midwives. Some hospitals even porvided maternity beds by 1760.
How could vaccinations affect it?
In 1796, Edward Jenner discovered the smallpox vaccination and more and more people got it. It was then made compulsory for all in 1870 and smallpox soon disappeared.
How could soap affect it?
After 1800, cheap soap became readily available which meant many germs were killed.
How could cleaner cities affect it?
After the 1860s councils beagn to clean up their towns and cities and clean water supplies and sewers were installed. Better housing was built too. The healthier towns included wider, lit streets and parks for the public to use.
How could doctors snd nurses affect it?
After 1870, doctors started to use anaesthetics and atiseptics to make operations safer and cleaner so less people died and nurseswere better trained too and worked in a growing number of hospitals.
How could child workers affect it?
After 1800, there were more factoctories and they employed child workers so some parent had more children knowing they would earn money.
