New media is evolutionary, not revolutionary new technology built on old technology. The concept was already there for example, with write in TV programmes. the only change according to Boyle and Haynes is the speed of connection

A

  • someone positive around the new media, main view is that it has led to an increase in choice for consumers - this has led to revitalisation of democracy and democratic engagement. This is done through control over consumption, increasing engagement in society too. They take a bottom up view that the public are in charge of the NM

  • they are group who are negative about the new media, they say we now live in increased surveillance, they say there is more risk to crime such as identity theft, with the new media it brings the old media disadvantages but brings more.
