The Nervous System Flashcards
What does the nervous system mean
Humans can react to their surroundings and coordinate their behaviour
What are the different parts the nervous system is made up of
Central nervous system(CNS) Receptors Effectors Sensory neurones Motor neurones
What does the central nervous system (CNS) consist
This consists of the brain and spinal cord
What is the CNS connected to
It’s connected to the body by sensory neurones and motor neurones
What does the sensory neurones do
It carries out information as electrical impulses from the receptors to the CNS
What does the motor neurones do
Carry electrical impulses from the CNS to effectors
What is a receptor
Cells that detect stimuli
What does different receptors detect
Different stimuli
What does receptors in the ears detect
Sound
What does effectors respond to
Electrical impulses and bring about a change
What are two effectors
Muscles and glands
What does the muscles in effectors do
It contracts
I hat does the glands in effectors do
Releases hormones
What is the CNS
It receives information from receptors and then coordinates a response (decides what to do about it)
