The Nervous system Flashcards
What is stimuli?
Change in enviroment
What is the CNS?
in vertebrates: brain and spinal cord
In mammals: sensory neurones and motor neurons
What are sensory neurones?
Neurones that carry information as electrical impulses from the receptors to the CNS
What are motor neurones?
Neurones that carry electrical impulses from the CNS to effectors
What are effectors?
Muscles and glands that respond to the nervous system
What are receptors?
cells that detect stimuli
What do effectors respond to?
nervous impulses
What does the CNS receive?
information from the receptors and then coordinates response
What is the response from the CNS carried out by?
effectors
What does the CNS do?
coordinates the response
What happens when the receptors are stimulated?
Sensory neurones carry info from the receptors to the CNS
Where does the CNS send info to?
to the effectors along the motor neurons
