The Nervous System Flashcards
Somatic Nervous System
Voluntary movements of skeletal muscles, motor neurons to communicate.
Part of the peripheral.
Autonomic System
Self regulated action of internal organs and glands
Part of the peripheral nervous system.
Everything that is automatic, heartbeat, stomach, breathing, etc.
Sympathetic System
Arouses, alertness level. Accelerates everything as an emotional response.
Part of Autonomic system.
Parasympathetic System
Calming your nerves, calms your body after a stressful event.
Part of Autonomic system.
Peripheral Nervous System
All of the actions that go to your muscles from your brain.
Everything but the brain and spinal cord.
Infromation from organs to the CNS.
“outer region”
Central Nervous System
Your brain and spinal cord. The command center of the body. Enables our humanity, thinking, feeling and acting.
Spinal cord is an information highway.
Reflexes.
Neural Networks
In the brain, interconnected neurons
routes of communication for different tasks, processes, etc.
Learns networks over time.
Practice makes permanent.
