the nervous system Flashcards
what does the nervous system consist of?
the central nervous system (CNS) – the brain & spinal cord
the peripheral nervous system (PNS) – nerve cell that carry information to or from the CNS
function of sensory (receptors)
have specialised epidermal cells that respond to the stimuli and consist of support cells e.g pain receptors
function of relay neutrone
carries the impulse close to the brain
function of motor neurone
carries the new response from the brain to effectors to start a response
what’s the function of axons?
they carry the impulse away from the nuclues(cell body)
what’s the function of dendrons?
carries the impulse towards the nucleus (cell body)
what’s the function of dendrites?
they receive impulses from electrical receptors
what does the nervous system consist of?
the central nervous system (CNS) – the brain & spinal cord
the peripheral nervous system (PNS) – nerve cell that carry information to or from the CNS
what’s the function of the myelin sheath?
a fatty layer which insulates the dendron/axon and speeds up transmissions
function of sensory neurone
transmits electrical signal from receptor cells to the CNS
the structure of a motor neurone
many short dendrites carry nerve impulses from the CNS to the cell body
one long axon carries nerve impulses from the cell body to effector cells
the structure of a relay neurone
many short dendrites carry nerve impulses from sensory neurones to the cell body
an axon carries nerve impulses from the cell body to motor neurones
the structure of a sensory neurone
one long dendron carries nerve impulses from the receptor cells to the cell body which is located in the middle of the neurone
one short axon carries nerve impulses from the cell body to the CNS.
