cell division and growth Flashcards
1
Q
cell division
cancer as a result
A
if there’s a change in one of the genes, the cell may begin to divide uncontrollably.
this can result in a mass of abnormal cells (a tumour)
if the tumour destroys the surrounding tissue it is called cancer
2
Q
cell elongation
A
takes place in plant cells only as animals don’t have cell walls. this is where the plant expands making the cell longer (only happens in the tips, shoots)
3
Q
cell differentiation
A
stem cells are able to change to become a specialised cells (meaning each cell now has its own job)
4
Q
importance of cell differentiation
A
they are important because they can perform a specialised function in the body, each have a specific role
