The Musculotaneous Nerve Flashcards
1
Q
Muscles Innervated
A
BBC = Biceps, Brachialis, Coracobrachialis
2
Q
Motor Functions
A
Flexion of the arm at the elbow, supination of the forearm
3
Q
Sensory
A
Lateral Surface of forearm through the lateral antebrachial cutaneous nerve
4
Q
What muscle does the MCN travel through?
A
Coracobrachialis
5
Q
MOTOR (i.e. motor to the muscles of the anterior upper arm).
A
- Coracobrachialis
- Biceps Brachii
- Brachialis
6
Q
SENSORY
A
- Lateral forearm
7
Q
Causes of Musculocutaneous nerve lesions: name 5?
A
- Very rarely damaged
- Most common upper limb nerve affected by diabetic neuropathy.
- Direct trauma: proximal humeral fracture, gunshot wounds, shoulder dislocation
- Rapid extension of forearm
- Entrapment in coracobrachialis
8
Q
Injury to the musculocutaneous nerve may lead to:
A
Weakness in elbow flexion, supination, loss of biceps DTR, sensory deficits and/or pain over lateral forearm
