to investigate whether a minority can influence the attitudes of a majority in an unambiguous task where the answer was clear

- he got 192 female participants and put them into groups of 6 after telling them they were taking part in a perception study
- P given 32 slides of different shades of blue > task was to judge the colour
- 2/6 were confederates who were instructed to say slides were green
