The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood: Session VIII Flashcards
What reason does Allan O’ Dale have to be melancholy?
The love of his life, Ellen O’ Dale, was going to be married to someone else because her father did not like Allan. Ellen was engaged to Sir Stephen of Trent, but she didn’t love him. She loved Allan O’ Dale.
Why does Robin need to find the Curtal Friar of Fountain Abbey?
Robin needs to find the Curtal Friar to wed Ellen and Allan a Dale because no one could perform a wedding unless they were a Friar.
After Robin takes his dunking from the Friar, what two things does Robin notice about him that don’t quite seem hermit-like?
Robin noticed that the Friar had a sword and armor on under his robes and that he was really muscular.
What deal does Robin make with the Bishop before the wedding begins? How does the Bishop pay for his wager?
Robin promises that the Friar can be part of their band and can stay as one of them. The Friar had to pay by giving the gold chain that was around his neck to Ellen O’ Dale.
What is Sir Richard of Lea’s predicament?
Sir Richard was in danger of losing his land because he couldn’t pay all the new taxes. Also, Priory of Emmett is very greedy about the taxes and is giving absolutely no grace to Sir Richard.
Robin attempts to cancel Sir Richard’s debt and allow him to keep the money as a gift. Why doesn’t he?
Sir Richard says that he can’t accept a gift that he will not be able to repay.
When the two friars tell Little John they have no money, Little John urges them to pray to Saint Dunstan. What happens when they do?
Every time, huge amounts of money “magically” appeared in their pouches.
When Robin approaches the four beggars, what is funny about the description of them realizing that someone is coming?
One is deaf, one blind, one dumb, and one lame, but what they do seems to say the exact opposite. The “deaf man” is the first to hear him, the “blind one” is the first to see him, the “dumb one” is the first to call out to Robin, and the “lame one” is the first one to run to him.
What are the terms of the agreement between Queen Eleanor and King Henry at the archery match in Finsbury Fields?
The agreement was that the King could pick any three archers to face the three archers that she had picked. The King also granted forty day pardons so people like Robin Hood who had a warrant for their arrest could come and go without being arrested.
How does the Bishop convince King Henry to break his promise of a forty day pardon to Robin and his men? What does Sir Robert Lee do when he does?
The Bishop told him that he couldn’t let an outlaw, especially someone like Robin Hood, escape his grasp. Sir Robert Lee goes straight to the Queen and tells her what the King and the Bishop discussed so they could warn Robin that the forty day pardon was to be lifted.
