The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood: Session IV Flashcards
What does Robin do to fall afoul of the law?
Robin killed one of the king’s deer because he made a wager he made with foresters and got mad.
How does Robin avoid being arrested by the Tinker?
Robin tricked the Tinker into thinking he was not Robin Hood. When the Tinker found Robin later, he accepted Robin’s invitation to become one of Robin’s Merry Men.
Why does the Sheriff of Nottingham decide to hold a shooting match?
He thinks Robin will most definitely come because Robin is very prideful. The Sheriff wanted Robin to come because he was disappointed that nobody caught Robin the first time.
What does the Sheriff decide after Will Stutely’s rescue? Why does he decide this?
The Sheriff decides that he will not try to capture Robin Hood anymore. He decides this because he had already failed three times. The Sheriff said, “I would sooner lose mine office than my life, so I will trouble them no more.”
What reason does Robin give for taking the Sheriff’s money after the feast?
Robin said the Sheriff needed to pay because he was one of their guests. Robin had Little John take the money because the Sheriff refused to pay.
Why is Robin reluctant to let Little John go to the Fair in Nottingham?
Little John was not as clever and sneaky as Will Stutely. He did not want Little John to be harmed.
Previously, Robin gave a rationale for robbing the Sheriff of a large sum of money, but when Little John steals the Sheriff’s silver, Robin makes him give it back. Why? What is Robin’s rationale behind stealing?
Robin made Little John give it back because they had already taken three hundred pounds from the Sheriff. He says, “He hath done nought that we should steal his household plate from him.” Robin had taken the Sheriff’s money before because he had a just reason, but Little John had taken it for no reason.
Why does Robin want to watch Little John take a “drubbing” from Arthur a Bland?
Because Little John had not followed his instructions. “It would please me to see him well thumped for having failed in my bidding.”
What does Robin find out about the stranger in scarlet that surprises him?
Robin was surprised when he discovered that the stranger in scarlet was running because he had killed his father’s new steward by giving him “a box o’ the ear.”
What is Robin’s plan to trick the Miller? How does it go wrong?
Robin planned to trick the Miller by saying he knew the Miller had coins in the bottom of his meal bags. The Miller “fessed up,” but when Robin and his men bent to look at the bag of meal the Miller was digging in, he thrust the meal into Robin and his men’s faces.
