Confessions Session VI Flashcards
What were the teachings of the Manicheans concerning fruit?
The upper class of the Manicheans said they were commanded to eat the fruit. They said there were particles of gods imprisoned in fruit. However, they did not eat apples. They also could not pick the fruit, and had to have others to pick it. They said that when they ate it, they then breathed out particles of the gods.
How does Augustine compare the Manicheans to “scientists”?
Augustine said that at least the scientists use experimentation and observation, but the Manicheans don’t even use reasonable observation.
What did the Manicheans claim concerning their leader Manes?
They believed that the Holy Spirit was in him, and that he spoke the direct words of the Holy Spirit. Like, he thought he had the authority of the Holy Spirit, and he thought that when he was speaking, it was the Word of God.
