The penis transports the semen to the vagina. It is made out of erectile tissue and it thus fills up with blood during an erection
what is the function of the epididymis?
The epididymis stores sperm until it is mature and is then released.
what are the testis and what are their function?
the testis are two oval shaped glands that produce both sperm and testosterone.
Each testi is split into compartments which are filled with seminiferous tubules
what is the scrotum and what is its function?
The scrotum regulates the temperature necessary for sperm production ( 2 or 3 degrees below body temperature)
it is also the skin sack which protects the testes
what is the glans?
the sensitive head of the penis
what is the urethra?
the urethra is a duct that transports semen and urine throughout the penis to the exterior at different times
what are seminal vesicles and what are their function?
they are sac-like glands which secrete sugary substances which are an energy source for the sperm
what is the function of the prostate gland?
the function of the prostate gland is to produce milky alkaline fluid which makes sperm more active and neutralises acidic vaginal secretion
what are Cowper’s glands and what are their function?
they are a pair of small glands that has secretion which helps to lubricate the head of the penis, clear the urethra of urine residues and maximise sperm motility
what is the Vas Deferens and what is its function?
the Vas Deferens is a muscular duct that transports sperm by peristalsis from the epididymis to the urethra.
