What is the function of the fallopian tube and where are they found?
the fallopian tubes occur on each sides of the uterus. One end opens in the upper corner of the uterus while the other opens in the abdominal cavity next to the ovary.
Its function is to facilitate the movement of the ovum towards the uterus
What is the function of the uterus and where is it found?
It is a muscular organ which houses and protects the foetus until birth
What is the ovary and what is its function?
an oval organ found in the pelvic cavity. Each ovary is surrounded by a layer of germinal epithelium. The ovaries produce oestrogen and progesterone
What is the uterus wall and what is its function?
The wall is made of three walls:
- first layer: loose connective tissue around the uterus which supports and protects
- middle layer: smooth muscle which introduces contractions at child birth
- an inner mucus membrane where implantation occurs
What is the endometrium and what is its function?
the inner mucose membrane of the uterus. It thickens during the menstrual cycle and is ready for the implantation of the blastocyst
What is the cervix and what is its function?
The cervix is a thick muscular canal found at the base of the uterus. It contains glands
What is the vagina and what is its function?
The vagina is a thin muscular tube which runs from the cervix to the exterior of the body. It receives the penis during sexual intercourse.
What is the vulva?
The opening of the vagina
