What is puberty?
Puberty is the process of physical and physiological changes which lead to the development of secondary sex traits. An immature individual therefore becomes capable of reproduction
What are some of the physical changes which occur during puberty?
Growth of facial hair, voice changes, pubic hair, ejaculation (males)
underarm hair, breast growth, hip growth, menstruation
What is the function of the acrosome ( found in the sperm) ?
it contains the enzymes which soften the glucose proteins of the egg membrane
What is the function of the nucleus of the sperm?
Contains the paternal haploid DNA
What is the function of the mitochondria found in the sperm?
it is the site where cellular respiration occurs. It releases energy which allows for the sperm to swim
What is the function of the tail in the sperm?
it gives strength and allows for the sperm to reach the egg
