The Lungs Flashcards
which 4 structures make up the root of the lung?
pulmonary and bronchial arteries, pulmonary veins, primary bronchi, nerves, lymph nodes
do the lungs extend beyond the 1st rib and clavicle?
yes
discuss the lymphatic drainage of the lungs
The lymphatics of the lungs and visceral pleura drain into the bronchopulmonary nodes at the bifurcation of the larger bronchi at the lung hila. From here, lymphatics pass to the tracheobronchial node which drain eventually into the thoracic duct and right lymphatic duct.
on which surface of the lung is the hilum found?
medial
discuss the pulmonary circulation
the portion of the circulatory system which carries deoxygenated blood away from the RV to the lungs via the pulmonary arterym and returns oxygenated blood to the LA via the pulmonary veins.
discuss the bronchial circulation
supplies oxygenated blood and nutrition to the lung tissue and larger airways. The bronchial arteries enter the lungs at the hilum along with the pulmonary arterieries. Two bronchail arteries supply the left lung and one on the right. The bronchial veins return this deoxygenated blood yo the systemic circulation (heart).
