- Passes on a tradition
- Needs our bodies
- Is accompanied by words
- Forms a community
5.What is the role of sacramentals? What are examples of sacramentals?
A sacramental is a blessing, consecration of people, or an exorcism. They lead us to God and show us his invisible grace. Examples include medals, crosses, relics, blessing people with holy water or anointing them with water, blessing meals, objects, or places.
6.Related to stage or events in life, when and why would a person receive each of the Seven Sacraments?
Catholic parents will want their baby baptized to share their faith.
Before the child receives the Eucharist for the first time, they confess their sins in the sacrament of reconciliation. When the Child is 8 years old, they receive their First Holy Communion (Eucharist). When the child becomes 12 years old, it is up to them to confirm their faith. When the child grows up, they choose their vocation, they could be called to the vocation of singlehood, priesthood (Holy Orders), or parenthood (Marriage). Whenever the person feels that death is near, or they are about to go through surgery, they could receive the sacrament of Anointing of the Sick.
- What are the religious symbols and rituals for the sacraments of the Eucharist (including at Mass),
Reconciliation and Anointing of the Sick?
Eucharist: Community, the reading of scripture, praise and thanking God over the gifts of bread and wine.
Reconciliation: Confessing of sins, laying on of hands (touch), proclamation of forgiveness.
Anointing of the Sick: Laying on of hands (touch), anointing of oil.
Why does Jesus want us to confess our sins to a priest? How does it relate to God and the community?
Only God forgives sins but priests act as mediators with Gods authority. They act in persona with Christ and thus have the power to forgive sins.
