Causes of the Korean War
At Potsdam it was agreed that Korea would be split along 38th Parallel with Us in south and USSR in north

Both wanted to reunite Korea
Kim il sing asked China and soviet for support to invade the south- initially said no but then Feb 1950 Stalin aided 1600 pieces of artillery, aircraft and tanks.
June 1950- north invades south
Truman sent us fleet to defend Taiwan- Mao sent military volunteers to kore august 1950

June 1950- North invades South and captures land
29 states agreed to economically aid Un
UN troops led my MacArthur set to Korea and managed to push troops back to north and go on further
Mao decided to sent 30,000 Chinese troops to North
MacArthur wanted to use air strikes but Truman said NO
Led to biggest military retreat in History
1951- both ready for peace but didn’t happen until 53 due to no agreements.

The armistice agreement in July 1953 led to a status-quo
Divided along 38th parallel with a 2km demilitarised zone either side

Offered long term security for North and South Korea
Led to status-quo
Long term security in Taiwan for US
Left Stalin economically unstable as it cost him lots of money
