The James-Lange Theory Flashcards
Explain the Classical Theory of Emotion.
Stimulus —> Feeling Emotion —> Physiological Response
Explain the The James-Lange Theory.
James-Lange’s theory suggests that witnessing an external stimulus leads to a physiological response that will guide to an emotional state.
Stimulus —> Physiological Response —> Feeling Emotion
What are some critiques to the James-Lange’s theory?
- Removing the connections between organs and nervous system, doesn’t change emotions;
- Same reactions different emotions;
- Internal organs are rather sensitive;
- Physical changes are too slow;
- Creation physical changes doesn’t cause such emotions.
Explain the Cannon-Bard Theory.
Centrist theory and simoultaneous reactions.
Stimulus —> Physiological Response and Feeling Emotion
Explain the Schacter and Singer’s Two-Factor Theory.
This theory builds on the James-Lange hyphotesis by adding the cognitive label factor. Emotions are a result both of the physiological response and cognitive interpretation.
Stimulus —> Physiological Response and Cognitive Label —> Feeling Emotion
Explain the Damasio’s Neo-Jamesian Theory of Emotion.
This theory builds on the James-Lange hyphotesis by incorporating the somatic marker indecision making and emotion.
Stimulus —> Physiological Response —> Somatic Marker —> Feeling Emotion
What are Somatic Markers?
Somatic Marker are past event associated with certatin physiological reponses.
