Reinforcement and Punishment Flashcards
What is the definition of classical conditioning?
It is the process by which an organism learns a new association between two stimuli.
What is the definition of operant conditioning?
It refers to a learning type, where in outcomes of an action regulate one’s behaviour. The consequence can be a reward or penalty.
It was a term coined by B. F. Skinner.
What are the key diferences between Reinforcement and Punishment?
Reinforcement involves strengthening desired behaviour through rewards or removal of undesirable stimuli. It encourages good performance and fosters positive outcomes.
Punishment discourages unwanted behavior by imposing unpleasant consequences or withdrawing pleasant stimuli. It serves to deter wrongdoing and discourage repeat actions.
Define Positive and Negative Reinforcement.
Positive Reinforcement: It refers to adding something to encourage a behavioural pattern.
Negative Reinforcement: It implies taking away something aversive to enhance a behavioural pattern.
Define Positive and Negative Punishment.
Positive Punishment: It refers to implementing an aversive stimulus if the behaviour repeats in the future.
Negative Punishment: the punishment which involves romoval of a pleasent stimulus, on the recurrence of behavior.
