What is the body’s first line of defense against bacteria and viruses?

Why does skin become pink when hot?
Blood vessels become dilated and send more blood towards the surface allowing heat to escape
How does the body keep warm in cold weather?
Constricting blood vessels preventing heat from escaping
How does the skin produce vitamin D?
By producing a molecule when exposed to sunlight that turns to vitamin D
What are the 3 layers of skin from outermost to innermost?
Epidermis, Dermis, and Subcutaneous
What are the 2 layers of the epidermis from outermost to innermost?
Stratum corneum and stratum basale
What is the name of the cell that creates keratin?
Keratinocyte
What is the name of the cell that creates melanin?
Melanocyte
What 2 things does melanin do?
Adds pigment to skin and absorbs UV radiation
Which skin layers contain blood vessels?
Dermis and subcutaneous

Adipose tissue and connective tissue
