Q

What is powerful about advertising?

A

promotes consumerism and influences the way we think, our appearance, what we find attractive and how we should behave. Sometimes the message can be direct and provide us with information, as seen in advertisements that are delivered by a celebrity or politician wearing conservative clothing. The delivery is full of facts – making it seem legitimate and worth considering.
Though it can also be a powerful vehicle to distribute important health and wellbeing messages as well as education.

Q

Negative influences of video games:

A

Anderson (2002) found that young people who play more than 20 hours a week of violent video games have increased aggressive behaviour and decreased positive social behaviours. Anderson attributed this to the graphic nature of the games. Other researchers who have conducted similar studies have attributed this to the belief that it desensitised the player.
