What is the aim of the IMF?
To secure financial stability and facilitate international trade, in the process they also aim to increase employment and decrease poverty.
How is the IMF funded?
It’s 189 members all contribute to the organisation. In 2016 it had $332 million available to spend on development.
What are the benefits of the IMF?
Like the World Bank it can provide loans and can fill the gap if there is a payment deficit.
It provides additional trade opportunities.
What are the negatives of the IMF?
Some argue it does not do enough to warrant its funding.
Countries in the past have taken advantage of the IMF in the knowledge they’ll be bailed out.
Who controls the IMF?
All members however the members who pay more money, such as the USA, get greater control.
