The hydrolocial cycle Flashcards
What is a hydrosphere?
The hydrosphere is made up of all the stores and flows of water in gas, liquid or solid states around the globe
What is the definition of the hydrological cycle?
The hydrological cycle is the continuous transfer of water between the sea, the land and the atmosphere
Name the 9 processes of the hydrological cycle…
condensation, transpiration, precipitation, evaporation, interception, surface runoff, groundwater flow and through flow
What happens in the process of condensation?
Its the process when water vapours (gas) turn into gas. It is the opposite of evaporation.
What happens in the process of transpiration?
The evaporation of water from plants and where water changes into water vapour and is released into the atmosphere
What happens in the process of precipitation?
Precipitation is any form of water - liquid or solid - falls from the sky
What happens in the process of evaporation?
Its when a liquid become a gas without forming bubbles inside the liquid volume
what happens in the process of interception?
It is to interrupt the movement of something, e.g - water is intercepted by the leaves of trees when it rains. The water never gets the ground
What happens in the process of surface - runoff?
This is when the surface doesn’t allow water to soak into the ground
What happens in the process of ground water flow?
The flow of water deep in the ground
What happens in the process of through flow?
Where water flow is in the soils
Name the river stores
Reservoir, ice, ocean and groundwater
Name the river flows
Through flow, groundwater, surface runoff
Name the river processes
Evaporation, condensation, transpiration, precipitation and interception
