The Holy Scriptures Flashcards
What is the relationship between the Word of God and Holy Scripture?
2 Timothy 3:16-17
Scripture is the actual words of God
Differentiate between Revelation, Inspiration, and Illumination
Revelation - The process by which something that is unknown or hidden is made known
- Romans 1:19-20
Inspiration - God is the ultimate author of Scripture. the Holy Spirit influenced/directed the writers
- 2 Timothy 3:16-17
Illumination - The process whereby the Holy Spirit makes the words of scripture understandable to the reader
- John 14:26
Differentiate between infallable and inerrant
Inerrant - no mistakes
- Numbers 23:19
Infallable - stronger word - means there can be no errors.
- Because all scripture is breathed out by God (2 Timothy 3:16-17), The words of the Lord are flawless (Psalm 12:6)
How do you ascertain the Canonicity of non-canonicity of specific books?
AAC
Authorship - Written by apostle or close connection to an apostle
Acceptance - Used by Jesus or by the church/recognized it
Content - Does the book pass the “truth test”
How would you respond to the charge that the doctrine of the inspiration of Scripture is irrelevant since “all we posess are very faulty copies of translation of the original documents of Biblical authors”?
There is overwhelming evidence that the Bible actually is God’s Word.
Predictive prophesies (specific) have come true

- No bones will be broken
- Buried in a rich man’s grave

- Pierced for our transgressions….
- Raised from the dead
Life of Jesus written by eyewitnesses, within 30 years after his death. Unfriendly eye witnesses still alive, would contradict any inaccuracies.
Unity of the Bible - Written by over 40 authors, living on 3 different continents, in 3 different languages. Authors wrote about controversial subjects.Yet the Bible is a unit, with each part needed to complete it
- OT = preparation
- Gospels = manifestation
- Acts = propagation
- Letters = explanation
- Revelation = the end
