What is the definition of the Holocaust?
To wipe out/exterminate the Jews or other people that they regarded as undesirable.
What happened in 1933?
The Nazis used school education to put their anti-Jewish views into practise. Jewish children were ridiculed in front of their classmates. The Nazis also attacked Jewish shops.
What happened in 1935?
Local authorities banned Jews from swimming baths, parks and playing fields. They were deprived of their right to vote. Marriage between Jews and non-Jews was also banned.
What happened in 1938?
Jews were starting to be persecuted. 7000 Jewish shops were attacked and burned.
What were Ghettos?
Ghettos were areas in which Jews were herded into. The conditions were extremely poor and many lived in poverty and starvation.
What was the ‘Final Solution’?
It was solution for the Jewish problem devised by Hitler in 1941, in which they decided to create death camps as a quicker way to eradicate their opponents.
What was the selection process?
> 4,000 Jews were packed into the Church
Jews were only allowed to bring a few belongings
4,000 Jews were kept in the Church for 48 hours with no food, drink and toilet facilities.
What was Chelmno?
It was an extermination death camp in which most of the 4,000 people from the selection process were taken.
What was life like in the Ghettos?
> If you tried to leave the ghetto you were shot
People killed each other in hospitals
Hardly any food or drink
You were rarely happy and would find yourself isolated
What was the most well known death camp?
Auschwitz - Birkenau
