The Holderness Coast as a sediment cell Flashcards
Where is sediment sub cell 2a located?
It is located between the headland at Flamborough in the North and the spit at Spurn Point in the South.
What are the inputs into the sub cell 2a?
-Smithic sands and offshore sand banks at Bridlington
-Erosion of the seabed
-Cliff erosion (boulder clay) from Bridlington to Kilnsea
What are the transfers/processes at sub cell 2a?
-Long shore drift towards the Spurn Head spit (transporting 3-6% of cliff material)
What are the outputs of sub cell 2a?
-Sediment carried offshore at Spurn Point
-LSD carries sediment to the Humber estuary then to beaches southward.
Where is the cell in surplus?
Surplus is occuring at Spurn Point as excess sediment extends out from the coastline, elongating the spit.
Where is the cell in deficit?
