The hip flexors Flashcards
Which muscles form the hip flexors?
Iliotibial-psoas
Pectineus
Rectus femoris
Sartorius
State the muscle attachments and nerve supply of iliotibial-psoas
Conjoined muscle and tendon of Psoas and Major (TP T12-L4) and Iliacus (iliac fossa)
Insertion: lesser trochanter
Nerve supply: innervation L2-L3
State the muscle attachments and nerve supply of pectineus
Origin: superior pubic ramus
Insertion: lesser trochanter to the linea aspera (pectineal line)
Nerve supply: femoral nerve L2-L4
State the muscle attachments and nerve supply of Rectus Femoris
Origins:
Long head- AIIS
Short head-ilium above acetabulum.
Insertion: quadriceps tendon of the patella
Nerve supply: femoral nerve L2-L4
State the muscle attachments and nerve supply of Sartorius
Origin: ASIS
Insertion: anterior-medial surface of the proximal tibia
Nerve supply: Femoral nerve L2-L3
What are the functions of the flexor muscles?
Iliotibial-Psoas flexes the hip and trunk
Pectineus flexes and adducts the thigh.
RF extends the knee and flexes the hip
Sartorius flexes, abducts and laterally rotates the thigh. Medially rotates the flexed knee
