The Heart 2 Flashcards
What do the coronary arteries do
They supply the walls of the heart with oxygen
Where does blood enter your heart
At the top chambers of your heart, which are called the atria (the vena cava and the pulmonary vein)
Where does blood from the vena cava go to and what type of blood is it
Blood from the vena cava goes into the right atrium and it is deoxygenated blood from your body
Where does the blood from the pulmonary vein go and what type of blood is it
Blood from the pulmonary vein goes into the left atrium and is oxygenated blood from your lungs
How does blood get out of the atria
The atria contract together and force blood down into the ventricles. Valves close to stop the blood flowing backwards
Once blood is in the ventricle what does the right ventricle do
It forces deoxygenated blood to the lungs in the pulmonary artery
Once blood is in the ventricle what does the left ventricle do
It pumps oxygenated blood around the body in a big artery called the aorta
How does doxygenated blood from the feet get to the heart
Skeletal muscles contract to push the blood up the heart against gravity
