the heart Flashcards
what are the four chambers of the heart
left atrium, right ventricle, left atrium, left ventrical
upper chamber is
atrium
lower chamber is called
ventrical
the muscle of the heart is
cardiac muscle which is involuntary
cardiac system- 5 important parts of the heart
cardiac muscle, semi-lunar, bicuspid, valves, septum, tricuspid
where does oxygenated blood return to
it returns to the left atrium through the pulmonary vein
deoxygenated blood is pumped from
the right ventricle to the lungs through the pulmonary artery.
where is oxygenated blood pumped at high pressure from
from the left ventricle through the aorta to the body’s arteries.
where does deoxygenated blood return through
from the veins to right atrium through the vena cava
each time blood goes around your body how many times does it go through ur heart
twice (double circulation)
what is systemic circuit
it is the main circuit
- it carries oxygenated blood around the body in the arteries and deoxygenated blood back to the heart along the veins
what is pulmonary circuit
The pulmonary circuit involves the heart and lungs.
It transports deoxygenated blood from the heart to the lungs, where it gets oxygenated.
The oxygenated blood then returns to the heart to be pumped throughout the body in the systemic circuit.
what are the 2 circuits from the circulatory system
systemic circuit and pulmonary circuit.
why is the left ventricle the most important part of the heart in terms of physical performance and activity
because in long term aerobic activity the left ventricle increases in size, thickening the ventricular wall making it stronger and more powerful.
name 4 valves
Pulmonary , tricuspid, aortic , mitral
