The heart Flashcards
What does the pulmonary artery do?
Carries deoxygenated blood from the right ventricle to the lungs
What does the aorta do?
Carries oxygenated blood from the left ventricle to the rest of the body
What is the vena cava and what does he do?
It’s a vein that carries deoxygenated blood from the body back into the heart through the right ventricle
What do the heart valves do?
Make sure that blood is flowing in the right direction and not going backwards
Where does oxygenated and deoxygenated blood come into the heart from?
It enters the atriums and through the valve into the ventricles
What does the pacemaker do?
it produces small electrical impulses spread around the muscle cells causing them to contract, creating your resting heart rate
What causes a coronary heart disease?
Buildup of fatty deposits in the arteries
What problems come with coronary heart disease?
The arteries become narrower, Restricting blood flow. This is the process called atherosclerosis
What can cause coronary heart disease?
Smoking, lack of exercise, eating unhealthy and Being overweight
what can coronary heart disease lead to?
The heart become strained from Trying to pump blood through the narrower arteries which can lead to a heart attack
