Q

Where does photosynthesis take place?

A

in chloroplasts in green plant cells. They contain pigments like chlorophyll that absorbs light.

Q

How can chlorophyll be a limiting factor of photosynthesis?

A

Amount of coffee in a plant can be affected by disease or environmental stress, these factors can cause chloroplasts to become damaged or not make enough chlorophyll Reducing the amount of photosynthesis.

Q

How can pond be used to measure the effect of light intensity on the rate of photosynthesis?

A

3 to which the pond weed produces oxygen corresponds to the rate at which is photosynthesising.

Q

How can you use pondweed to measure the effect of light on a rate of photosynthesis?

A

source of white light is placed at a specific distance from the pond weed. Pommard is left to photosynthesise for settlement of time, as it does this the oxygen will be released and collected in the capillary tube. At the end of the experiment the syringe is used to draw the gas bubbles in the tube alongside the ruler and the length of the bubbles is measured. This is proportional to the volume of O2 produced. Repeat the experiment twice while moving the light source a different distances.

16
Q

What is anaerobic respiration and why is it used?

A

Anaerobic respiration is used when there is not enough oxygen because it does not require it.

17
Q

what is the word equation for anaerobic respiration?

A

glucose———) lactic acid

18
Q

When is anaerobic respiration use?

A

in emergencies such as during exercise when it’s allowed you to keep your muscles working for a while more.

19
Q

What is the word equation for anaerobic respiration in plants and yeast cells?

A

glucose———) ethanol + CO2

20
Q

What is anaerobic respiration in yeast cells called?

A

Fermentation

21
Q

What is it that causes bread to rise? yeah

A

Carbon dioxide from fermentation

22
Q

What do you plant and East cells produce during anaerobic respiration?

A

Ethanol

23
Q

Why is your breathing rate increase when you do exercise?

A

Because you need more energy from respiration (oxygen) say that your muscles can contract quicker.

24
Q

Why does exercise become painful?

A

Because you are not getting enough aerobic respiration, you need anaerobic to keep going which builds up lactic acid in your muscles.

25
Q

What is oxygen debt?

A

The amount of oxygen your body needs to react with the buildup of lactic acid.
