The greenhouse effect Flashcards
When the greenhouse effect takes place
During terrestrial radiation some radiation is actually trapped in the troposphere.
This means that some heat stays in the atmosphere for longer, heating up Earth. Eventually the heat is released to space
Greenhouse gases
Carbon dioxide (CO2)
Methane (CH4)
Water vapour
Nitrous oxide (N2O)
Human impact the greenhouse effect
Due to the increase in carbon dioxide emission (from fossil fuels), there is a high level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
This means that more heat is trapped on Earth, and trapped for much longer.
Sources of carbon dioxide emissions
Agriculture
Industry/Manufacture
Transportation
Residential and Commercial buildings.
Coral reef bleaching
affected by both temperature increase and carbon dioxide increase in water.
Happens when corals are stressed and expel the algae in their tissues
Positives of global warming
Countries near the poles can grow more crops due to warmer climate.
High altitude areas can become new habitats
Negatives of global warming
tropical areas, will be destroyed out if global temperatures are too high
