The Foot Flashcards
1 - Abductor Hallucis
O: Medial Tubercle of tuberosity of calcaneus, flexor retinaculum, plantar aponeurosis
I: medial side of base of proximal phalanx of 1st digit (big toe)
ACTION: abducts and flexes big toe
INNERVATION: Medial Plantar Nerve
1 - Flexor Digitorum Brevis
O: Medial Tubercle of tuberosity of calcaneus, plantar aponeurosis, intermuscular septa
I: both sides of middle phalanges of lateral four digits
ACTION: flexes lateral four digits
INNERVATION: Medial Plantar Nerve
1 - Abductor Digit Minimi
O: Medial and lateral Tubercles of tuberosity of calcaneus, plantar aponeurosis, intermuscular septa
I: lateral side of base of proximal phalanx of 5th digit
ACTION: abducts and flexes little toe
INNERVATION: LATERAL Plantar Nerve
2 - Tendon of FHL
O: inferior 2/3 of posterior surface of fibular, inferior part of interosseous membrane
I: base of distal phalanx of great toe
ACTION: flexes great toe at all joints, weakly PF ankle, supports medial longitudinal arches of foot
INNERVATION: Tibial Nerve
2- Tendon of FDL
O: Medial Part of posterior surface of tibia inferior to soleal line, by broad tendon to fibula
I: base of distal phalanges of lateral four digits
ACTION: Flexes lateral four digits, PF ankle, supports longitudinal arches of the foot
INNERVATION: Tibial Nerve
2- Quadratus Plantae
O: Medial surface and lateral margin of plantar surface of calcaneus
I: Posterolateral mergin of tendon of FDL
ACTION: assists FDL in flexing lateral four digits
INNERVATION: LAT plantar nerve
2- Lumbricals (4)
O: tendons of FDL
I: medial aspect of expansion over lateral four digits
ACTION: flex proximal phalanges, extend middle and distal phalanges of lateral four digits
INNERVATION: Medial one = MED plantar nerve
Lateral three = LAT plantar nerve
3 - Flexor Hallucis Brevis
O: Plantar surfaces of cuboid and lateral cuneiform
I: both sides of proximal phalanx of 1st toe
ACTION: flexes proximal phalanx of 1st digit
INNERVATION: Medial plantar nerve
3 - Adductor Hallucis
O: OBLIQUE HEAD: bases of 2-4 metatarsals
TRANSVERSE HEAD: plantar ligaments of metatarsophalangeal joints
I: tendons of both heads attach to lat side of base of proximal phalanx of 1st digit
ACTION: adduct 1st digit, assists in transverse arch of the foot
INNERVATION: deep branch of lateral plantar nerve
3 - Flexor Digiti Minimi Brevis
O: base of 5th metatarsal
I: Base of proximal phalanx of 5th digit
ACTION: flexes proximal phalanx of 5th digit
INNERVATION: Superficial branch of Lateral Plantar nerve
4 - Plantar Interossei (3)
O: Bases and medial sides of metatarsals 3-5
I: base of proximal phalanx of 5th digit
ACTION: adducts digits (3-4) and flex metatarsophalangeal joints
INNERVATION: Lateral Plantar Nerve
4 - Dorsal Interossei (4)
O: Adjacent sides of metatarsals 1-5
I: 1st = medial side of proximal phalanx of 2nd digit
2-4= lateral sides of 2-4th digits
ACTION: abducts digits (2-4) and flex metatarsophalangeal joints
4 - Tendon of Tib Post
O: interosseous membrane, posterior surface of tibia inferior to soleal line, posterior surface of fibular
I: tuberosity of navicular, cuneiform + cuboid, bases of 2,3,4 metatarsals
GREEDY
ACTION: PF ankle, Inverts foot
INNERVATION: Tibial Nerve
4 - Tendon of Peroneus longus
O: Head and Sup. 2/3 of lat surface of fibular
I: base of 1st met and medial cuniform
ACTION: everts foot, + weakly PF ankle
INNERVATION: superficial peronneal nerve
Plantar Aponeurosis
thick, central part of plantar fascia
holds most of the foot together, protects the sole form injury
medial calcaneal tubercle –> superficial transverse metatarsal ligament
