Posterior Thigh Flashcards
Semimembranosus
O: Ischial Tuberosity (deeper - upper lat)
I: posterior part of medial tibial condyle
reflected attachment forms oblique popliteal ligament (to lat femoral condyle)
Semitendiosus
O: ischial Tuberosity
I: Pes Anserinus
Biceps Femoris
LONG HEAD O: ischial tuberosity (lower, sup. and medial)
SHORT HEAD O: linea asora and lateral supracondylar line of the femur
I: lateral side of the head of fibula - tendon is split at this site by fibular collateral ligament of the knee
Gastrocnemius
LAT head O: lat aspect of lat condyle of femur
MED head O: popliteal surface of femur (sup. to medial condyle)
I: posterior aspect of calcaneus via the Achillies Tendon
Plantaris
O: inferior end of lat supracondylar line of femur; oblique to popliteal lig
I: posterior aspect of the calcaneus via the Achillies tendon
Popliteus
O: lateral suface of lat condyle of femur and lat mensicus
I: Pos. surface of tibia, superior to soleal line
Semimembranosus ACTION and INNERVATION
FLEX leg at the KNEE!
extend thigh, flex leg and med rotate when knee is flexed
Tibial division of sciatic nerve
Semitendinosus ACTION AND INNERVATION
extend thigh; flex leg and med rotate when knee is flexed
tibial portion of sciatic nerve
Biceps Femoris ACTION AND INNERVATION
Flexes leg and rotates it lat. when knee is flexed
extends thigh
LONG head: tibial portion of sciatic nerve
SHORT head: common peroneal potion of sciatic nerve
Gastrocnemius ACTION AND INNERVATION
Plantarflexes ankle when knee is extended
raises heel when walking
flexes leg at knee joint
TIBIAL nerve
Plantaris ACTION and INNERVATION
Weakly assists in PF ankle
TIBIAL nerve
Popliteus ACTION AND INNERVATION
Laterally rotates (UNLOCKS) the knee
weakly flexes the knee
TIBIAL NERVE
