The Eye Flashcards
3 eyeball layers?
fibrous
vascular
sensory
fibrous coat?
sclera and cornea
vascular coat?
choroid supplies outer layer with blood
ciliary body suspends lens and produces aqueous humour
iris which controls the diameter of the pupil
sensory coat?
retina with light sensitive rods and cones
length of eyeball?
orbit?
24mm
40mm
What is in anterior segment and what is it’s path?
Aqueous humor infront of the lens which aids to maintain IOP
It drains via the trabecular meshwork into the Schlemm’s canal
what is posterior to lens?
Vitreous humor which helps to cushion the retina
what muscle in eyelids?
what plate?
levator palpebrae superioris
hardplate (tarsal plate)
what is the lacrimal apparatus?
the lacrimal gland is in the orbit laterally and opens into the conjunctival sac spending evenly over the cornea with each blink
tears drain through punctae which drains into lacrimal sac over the lacrimal bone and into nasolacrimal duct
2 intrinsic muscles?
CN?
ciliaris muscle and constrictor pupillae
parasympathetic CN III
where do recti muscles arise?
apex of the orbit from annular fibrous ring
SO rise?
roof of the orbit posteriorly
IO rise?
floor of the orbit anteriorly
arterial supply to orbit?
ophthalmic artery a large branch of the ICA and supplies all structures in the orbit
artery in optic nerve?
central retinal artery travels within substance of optic nerve and supplies inner layers of the retina
